John Rocha-The Designer
Born in Hong Kong of Chinese and Portuguese descent, John Rocha moved to London in the 1970's to study fashion. Using Irish Linen in his graduate collection he was inspired to visit Ireland, eventually moving to Dublin in the 1980's, where he has lived for over twenty years, working closely with his wife and business partner, Odette. Over this time, John has developed and refined his own distinctive style, constantly experimenting with new fabric and techniques. His trademark hand embellishments, handcrafted knitwear and hand painted silks give a distinctly special and eclectic appeal to his collections.
John was awarded with the prestigious title of British Designer of the Year in 1994 and since then has received widespread international recognition, and has expanded his work into other creative fields.
In 1997, the John Rocha at Waterford Crystal collection was successfully launched marking his first work in another medium. The range has subsequently achieved worldwide acclaim, and continues to expand and develop. October 2004 saw the launch of Black Cut a dramatic new collection of opulent Black and Clear Cut stem and gift ware.
